NYEB Advisory Board

Our Advisory Board provides high-level strategic guidance and expertise for the NYEB and supports our advocacy on national policy change and system reform.

Our Board is made up of representatives across industry, research, employment, education and training, community and government, and includes a community partner representative and two young people from the NYEB Youth Advisory Board.

Youth Advisory Board

Our Youth Advisory Board provides strategic guidance and advice on how the NYEB can work towards its mission, strengthen youth voice across the NYEB and advocate for policy change. It brings together young people from the eight communities in which the NYEB operates Community Investment Committees. These young people are invested in their local communities and care about improving opportunities for young people.

Two members of the Youth Advisory Board also sit as full members on the NYEB Advisory Board.

Enabling Organisation: Brotherhood of St Laurence (BSL)

Melbourne-based non-profit social justice organisation, the Brotherhood of St. Laurence (BSL), is the Enabling Organisation of the NYEB. The Enabling Organisation coordinates the NYEB community of practice, supporting partners to build a consistent practice for local collaboration and share knowledge. Through its research, policy and advocacy functions, it also draws and synthesises lessons from local work across the country to evaluate the NYEB model, inform national advocacy and produce thought leadership on key themes relating to youth employment and government systems.

Skills and Training Reference Group

The Skills and Training Reference Group brings together skills representatives from each of the NYEB communities with representatives from state and national representatives of the tertiary education sector, Jobs and Skills Councils and the apprenticeship system.

The group co-develops policy influencing and advocacy opportunities in education and training that draw on lessons emerging in NYEB communities. It also supports the NYEB in driving a coordinated approach to drawing on national skills and training expertise to support place-based pilots and projects that are enabling greater alignment between local training and labour market opportunities.

Place-based governance

Community Investment Committees

A Community Investment Committee is a group of people and organisations from the same community who work together to design and deliver initiatives that address systemic barriers that hold local people back from reaching their full potential. CICs are lead by a local partner but thrive on shared decision-making and action from all members. CICs differ from network meetings or community forums by building in shared accountability. Community partners

The impact of the NYEB is enabled by local, youth-specialist, partners leading collaboration in their communities. These local partners bring together their communities to identify opportunities for systems to better support young people and respond to local system problems. They are the heart of the NYEB.

Funders

systemic change since 2018.

The Australian Government Department of Education, Skills
and Employment funded the Brotherhood of St Laurence from 2018-2020 to establish and coordinate three foundational sites of the NYEB.
