The Compass Project
Since 2021, the Compass Project has been supporting communities to identify, interpret and use data more effectively.
The Compass Project builds community capability to understand and use data and evidence and aims to understand how to strengthen the role of data and evidence in place-based youth employment solutions.
The project emerged in response to early lessons from the National Youth Employment Body that showed that data about how young people live, work and learn in their local community can be hard to access.
Where data is accessible it often does not capture the whole picture of what young people are experiencing within their local community, and requires a particular set of capabilities to contextualise alongside local expertise and the lived experience of young people.
The Compass Tool
The Compass Tool is:
- a data dashboard that includes data on how young people live, work and learn
- presented in an accessible and easy use to dashboard format
- built through collaborative co-design with local community leaders
- a resource to support conversations about actions needed to strengthen employment for young people
The Compass Model
The Compass Model is a multi-step, applied practice approach to build:
- understanding of the role of data and evidence in informing local action on issues that matter
- practices for individual and collective use of data and evidence
- tools for facilitating conversations about data, evidence and storytelling that resonate with community stakeholders
